Some great gadgets from the International Housewares Show

We recently spent the day at the International Housewares Show. We didn't see everything, you'd have to walk over 13 miles to see the entire show! Here are a few items of interest we found:
  • Seville Classics: This is a terrific laundry sorter. I'm a huge advocate for having the whole family place their laundry into a common sorter. When the sorter is full, throw in a load. The rod above the bins is an added bonus!

  • Sterilite Shelving and Containers: Sterilite will be coming out with a nice line of shelving that's the perfect size to house their containers. The set would be perfect in a garage or a basement. I was not able to find images of it online, but I will keep an eye out to see when they are released. I think many of our clients would find the set useful.
  • Spice Device: No more having to grab the set of measuring spoons. Stick the spice device on frequently used spices to quickly measure and add to a recipe!

  • Dry Dock: This is a nice big antibacterial sponge to set your drying dishes on. Rather than using a large dish rack, place them on this Dry Dock and let them dry.

  • InstaHanger: Here's a cute idea for a foyer, porch or any other area you'd like to have the option of hanging up some extra items. When not in use, it makes a nice decorative frame for photos.

Laundry Litany

Ok, we need to talk about laundry. Everyone has it. It's a fact of life, so as an organizer and efficiency expert, it's my job to help you find ways to make it easier. Here are some of my favorite laundry room tools that can help lighten the load.

The first, these terrific collapsible baskets are available at The Container Store- I love them! I have one for every member of the household. When doing laundry, fold and sort clothes into each persons respective basket. When the laundry is finished, the basket is collapsible, so folds up and gets put away too! Another thing that has worked great in my household is a laundry sorter. You can see the striped sorter above in the photo of my own laundry room. Get your family in the habit of putting their laundry into one. When the sorter is full, anyone can just pop in a load. No more hunting and gathering-it makes doing laundry so much easier! Another thing I do to help cut down on laundry is to hang a row of hooks in the closet. Instead of always throwing jeans that have been worn for an hour into the wash, hang them on the hook and have them accessible for the next time. Get a couple hooks and see if you can cut down on your laundry volume! Lastly, use Color Catchers by Shout. These sheets allow you to throw in any color laundry together and just get it done. You can wash lights with darks saving time and energy. Hopefully, using these simple tips, doing laundry won't be such a chore.
